48 Hour Photo Comp: Shipshape and Bristol fashion
For the next 48 hour competition, let's see your three favourite images of anything Bristol.
That can be any aircraft manufactured by the Bristol Aeroplane Company, Bristol Aircraft or powered by a Bristol Engine Company or Bristol Siddeley engine.
Any aircraft associated with Filton Airfield or the city itself is also acceptable!

Re: 48 Hour Photo Comp: Shipshape and Bristol fashion
This Bristol Freighter lives at Omaka in New Zealand.
It does not fly anymore but like the jets at Bruntingthorpe it still runs and taxis.
Although while the jets do fast taxi runs this Freighter more lumbers along at slow walking pace!
Still, I think, it has the only running Bristol Hercules engines in the world?

I wish I could add the audio to go with the visuals

I assume the Noratlas is still flying in France Andy, which has licence built Hercules engines.

Converted at Filton back in the 80s. The VC10.

The classic lines of the Bristol Blenheim. There is a tenuous link to Avro too, because the MKIV was built at woodford during the war.

Tenuous? I'm not sure, but 'The Gnome [the engine] came to Rolls-Royce after their takeover of Bristol Siddeley in 1968, Bristol having absorbed de Havilland Engines Limited in 1961.'

I'm not sure this counts, but I have this and also the programme at home from the 1950 Bristol at home day - quite a lineup in the flying display too, but I can't show that cos it would breach the 3 pics rule - the Brabazon flew twice :wow: The white tents in the background are marked on the site map as 'teas' and depending on your ticket colour you had a different tent to go to - which I find wonderfully British!
They was handed down to me from my Father-in-Law, who was given it by his dad who was at the show in 1950 (and worked himself at Filton during the war).

Re: 48 Hour Photo Comp: Shipshape and Bristol fashion
Starting with one of their most elegant rotary products, the Bristol 171 Sycamore. Seen here at Airpower16 on its public debut display, a stunning machine which captivated the crowd. I remain extremely grateful to the Flying Bulls for their epic trip to the UK with this beauty in 2018.
Hoping I get bonus points for including a Bristol car in the image? This was shot at the RAF Museum in 2011 when the Bristol 188 "Flying Pencil" was positioned outside for a photoshoot with an array of Bristol Cars for the cover of a motoring magazine.
Finally, a Bristol based helicopter performing at Bristol's most famous aviation event... the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta.

In this case, here is "La Grise" ("The Grey", nickname of the Noratlas) @ Melun 2018:capercaillie wrote: ↑Wed 07 Oct 2020, 8:43 amI assume the Noratlas is still flying in France Andy, which has licence built Hercules engines.

I think you've all done Bristol proud!
Some honorable mentions to Andy's "lumbering" Bristol Freighter, Seamus' Bristol Blenheim, Sarah's Brooklands Concorde and jalfrezi Bristol Scout & F2b.
A really difficult one to choose a winner from a varied selection of types, however my top three are:
3) DanB Bristol Scout - A really nice capture of the aircraft leaving the turf at Old Warden.
2) Peters Bristol 188 - Bonus points for the Bristol car. A great image!
1) Col. Chibani Iraqi Sea Fury - The last offering is my winner, the Bristol Centaurus engined Sea Fury.
Thanks everyone and it's over to the Colonel for the next round.

Re: 48 Hour Photo Comp: Shipshape and Bristol fashion
Thanks a lot, Chris !
Took me a while to check, but I ensured that this Belgium-registered OO-ISS Sea Fury was actually powered by a Bristol Centaurus.
She is flying again since July 2019.
Have an idea for next theme, will post tomorow (warning : present post includes a hint).
