Sywell Visit 09.10.20

Post by MUSTANG »

A quick visit to a cold Sywell today...fairly busy with the Blades doing passengers flights as was Spitfire ML407. Mustang "Contrary Mary" had a flight and a RAF Prefect T1 did a quick missed approach...also managed a photo of the new Spitfire MH415 / G-AVDJ, sadly it was pulled out then put back in (swapping aircraft around).

Good to see some late-season warbird action, thanks for sharing the piccies.

How long has MH415 been in the UK? I thought she was Down-under.

I believe sometime this year, June 2020 (current reg date) is given on G-INFO but maybe a bit earlier than this...

I'm sure I read it came over in March, but I haven't a clue where though!

http://warbirdsnews.com/warbird-restora ... undup.html

"Unfortunately though, the aircraft has yet to take to the skies as the owners decided to send the aircraft to the UK for its first flight, and to participate in various events during the summer season there. But, of course, shortly after VFR packed and freighted MH415 to Britain, the coronavirus arrived in force, which either cancelled, or rendered in doubt, the Spitfire’s scheduled performance at UK air shows."

That would tie in with a March arrival. Though I'm probably wrong!

Yes knew I had seen a article somewhere...Aeroplane Monthly May 2020. It did indeed arrive in March quote "will now be assembled and flight-tested by Richard Grace and his team at Air Leasing"

Yes it is, be but like any airfield it can depend on the weather...this page of the Sywell website can be helpful http://www.sywellaerodrome.co.uk/status.php

Most Warbird action tends to be during the week, but not always as the above Spitfire engine test shows.
