48 Hour Photo Comp: Trainers!

Post by PeterR »

To keep the theme running from my winning image last round, for this competition I am looking for your 3 best images of aircraft used for flying training, the rarer the better!

From elementary types, up to advanced jet trainers, and rotary wing too, all welcome as long as it's primary role is flying training and is marked as such (eg, no display team painted aircraft).

Lets try and keep it as military flying training aircraft if possible, but interesting civilian types will be permitted. Twin-stick combat jets (eg F-16D or Mirage 2000B) are excluded for this challenge.

Three from Beauvechain
Irish SF260W, never saw enough of these, can only ever remember them at one UK show, Cosford

The Spanish Air Force had eight of these as their training helicopter, an unusual choice and a type rarely seen in full military service, the S-76 Spirit

From the French Air Force, a type popular in flying clubs, the D140E Mousquetaire IV

Jet Provost in camouflage as part of TWU, seen at Greenham Common 1983.

Irish Air Corps Fouga Magister (Think they only had 6 of them).

HAL Kiran at Farnborough 1984

(This is a bonus one - not for competition entry but thought it might be of interest and figured it would never fit another comp theme. F-4 and Bulldog both overshooting at Leuchars, one taking less time to fly a circuit than the other.)

Well I wanted to do some honorable mentions for exotic machines, but there's just too many to mention. Thanks for everyone who posted as it's very pleasing to see so many rare and exciting machines past and present! Makes me think that a training theme could be very attractive at a future Air Tattoo... :smirk: But on to my top three shots:

#3 - jalfrezi's shot of the Kawasaki T-4 in lovely light with a nice background is an image we all probably wish we all had in our collection.
#2 - ianf's shot of the T-38 in sinister black paint scheme is a classic shot of an aeroplane with lovely curves.
#1 - poison143 gets the win for the lovely topside shot of the classic Dominie T1. Over to you for the next competition..!
