Great idea for a comp. These haven't been seen before I don't think. Two taking off, one departing at great speed.

I stopped by at Port Hardy airport in British Columbia and asked if I could have a look around. The guy just said come on in, and within a few minutes this Grumman Goose arrived. Built in 1942 she was still in commercial use 65 years later.

Re: 48 Hour Photo Comp: Hidden Gems
A gem hidden away from us here in Britain, the world's last flying Vautour, an ex CEV machine with a Mirage 2000 nose radar, kept airworthy in civilian hands for about 10 years and regular around the French airshow circuit at that time. seen here at Nancy awaiting its display slot in 1994.

Oh those French and their secretive CEV machines, this was their last airworthy Mirage IIIE, with a recce nose, seen just before retirement taxi-ing back in at Cazaux in 2005.

staying on the 1950s designed delta theme, one type I always wanted to see fly was the Sexy Six, the F-106 Delta Dart, I managed just once when this QF-106A arrived from Tyndall at Nellis in April 1997 for the Golden Air Tattoo. It never managed to land due to high cross winds , and had to make the short journey down from Indian Springs the next day, at least it made an approach for us.

Re: 48 Hour Photo Comp: Hidden Gems
I've gone for a theme of 'hidden gems' within my RAW image files for my three entries, all of which are images I've previously not processed until the past few weeks. As I'm sure lots have others have been doing through this year, recently I've gone through my external hard drives and been editing shots that I didn't look at on the first sweep. All three shots today are from 2015 and images that for whatever reason I didn't bother to process five years ago but please that I have done so now...

First one from Farnborough 2012, taken from the Southwood playing fields that used to be a popular watchpoint for Cove residents.

Finally back to 1978 and one of my few scans: Red Arrows Vixen Break with Gnats. Taken on one of my first ventures into the showground, as a sixteen-year-old stripling.

I've gone for 3 slightly menacing RIAT static shots, that stand out for me whenever I have a 'flick through'.

Re: 48 Hour Photo Comp: Hidden Gems
When I first saw the new theme name, I immediatly thought about one of my most surprising aeronautical surprise: the Vigna di Valle Air Museum, in Italy.
Hidden gems for sure are exhibited there: unique and magnificent machines !
Only 3 pictures shown here, but more on my Flickr.

A place worth the visit and even the trip (as soon as possible).

Re: 48 Hour Photo Comp: Hidden Gems
lots to enjoy..
Honorable mentions to Paul's 106 - I'd have loved to have seen one!
Peters' Tomcat 4 ship (phaor!)
Andy' Goose (My misses wants us to buy a campervan - might show her this as an option!)
but i'm going to go with..
3) Derek's Concord - I like the heads in the foreground - gives it scale - I used to work 2 minutes walk away from here at Farnborough and had my first solo flight from the same runway!
2) Nicks wonderful B/W Beech 18 - beautiful aeroplane and a beautiful photograpgh
1) Peters Slovak Mig-29 - win's because I can feel the afterburner vibrating my chest!
I love watching fast jet displays at sunset - and this photo captures why.
Yours Peter:
As an aside I don't usually see military aircraft flying day to day (I live in the South Island of New Zealand) - but today had 4 singleton RNZAF Texan's come low over the house.
Each time trying to (quickly) find my glasses and choose the right door to bail out of to see the aircraft before it disappears - sometimes more successfully than others!

Thanks Andy, nice morning surprise to wake up to. The Fulcrum shot was taken at Radom 2015, performing as one of the final displays of the day during the setting sun.
