Aurora 1/48 DH-10

Post by DerekF »

A slightly unusual aeroplane and one that has been in a loft for a long time. Not the easiest kit I've ever built but I got there in the end. Brushed painted in a mix of Xtracolor, Revell and Humbrol paints. Decals from the spares box as the kit examples were beyond recovery.

That is excellent Derek, a real rarity as well by the look of the box or is that loft longevity at work?

I keep toying with the idea of WWI options but my fear of biplanes and rigging is strong, perhaps if you make your current builds theme a WW1 option I might be tempted to join in.

Again, great build!

Nice one Derek that is a real rarity. I've been after it for years. I like your graining on the props, a very subtle touch. Reminds me I have a Gotha still to tackle!

Nice one Derek, great build of a rare kit and like Ian said those props look great. What was the technique? Also, what did you use for the rigging wires?

Tackling the slightly nasty SMER Fokker Dr.1 in 1.44 scale (yes, 1.44 not 1.48 or 1/144!) at the moment and could do with the advice.

Thanks folks. The props were hand brushed with brown, tan and orange paint but not mixed. Just a single stroke of each colour. I use elastic thread for the rigging, with a blob of super glue at each joint. Also required are a decent set of tweezers, patience and a supply of bad language. Good luck with 1/144 scale. The DH-10 is 1/48 and is difficult enough!

Nicely done indeed. Is that a bomb aimer's glass panel? One of the first to have?
