48 Hour Photo Comp: Heavy Bombers

Post by FarnboroJohn »

Real bombers. Not strike aircraft dressed up but things that can ruin your whole weekend and those of the neighbours for several blocks around. Any age, any propulsion.

One of only four complete airframes remaining, the B-36 was the largest mass-produced piston-engined aircraft ever built.

3 from me

Handley Pages penultimate heavy bomber.

Image

Two for the price of one. Cold war warriors.

The last Handley Page heavy Bomber and the best looking heavy bomber too!

Image

Btw the last 2 Pictures show 3 aircraft which with the Vulcan were all first flown in 1952! Quite a good crop that year.

I was going to just ogle this thread for its wonderfulness, but decided to throw these in to the mix instead:

First, a B-52 from down low (I expect I had fallen over)

Moody, menacing...

This is probably cheating, but I expect it was quite 'heavy' at the time

Two from me, both from the recent BTF at Fairford, as to me the B-52 is the iconic heavy bomber.

Nice to be reminded what a great looking aircraft the B17 is from any angle.
