Texel 2023

Post by aviodromefriend »

Just saw some news that I haven't seen reported here earlier, but that has been around for over two months:

The Texel Airshow that was planned to take place in 2021 has been postponed till 2022, August 6.

Reason given for this is that it is impossible to start the organisation and run a safe and good quality event (which takes about a year) under current covid circumstances, running the risk of not being able to put it on at all, or for a restricted number of spectators only.

I wonder how many shows will follow.... Well maybe we should be happy that they still plan one for '22, and not pull the plug completely.

Postponed until 2023 August 12 due to too many uncertainties.

Now cancelled.

Reasons given:
1 Costs have risen out of hands for the event. Allthough the main sponsor had a positive attitude to pump up more money, the other sponsors didn't. If entrance prices would have to go up, people would gather outside the airfield. TBH, this was already an issue quoted after the last show.
2 Environmental footprint. Up till last show the organisers were given a reasonable task on this subject, but now this has increased very much, and there was also the possibility that it would increase even further close to the event.
3 International tensions. It is not clear which military teams will be around for next year due to Mr. Putin's behaviour during '22, and it is anticipated that if things go wrong, teams that might start the season can be stopped at any time if needed.
