48 Hour Photo Comp: Airshow Action

Post by Wrexham Mackem »

The thing that first hooked me into airshows, and indeed first encouraged me take photographs at airshows, was the dynamic spectacle. That fast moving, action packed flying display, full of speed, power, movement and aircraft doing things we didn't think possible.

So the theme for this competition is Airshow Action. Let's see some images that capture that 'wow factor' of a flying display or moving aircraft.

Over to you folks. Three images each.

Oh now this, this I am looking forward to. I shall be sitting back and enjoying the spectacle I think...

Still one of the biggest 'wows' at an airshow:

Night flying with pyros seem to get a reaction from the crowd every time:

Sitting at a polish airshow when this bugger goes over you at a high alpha, cranks on the coals and dumps flares out almost above you!!!

Sadly missing aircraft you grew up with, in what was their last display year.

Oh go on then - three compact shots from me that sum up 'airshow action' in my mind - these are from RIAT 2015:

First, the spectacle of those one off flypasts...

Then there's the new or unique...

Finally, airshows wouldn't be airshows without the action that display teams bring to the party, and these guys are always flown beautifully...

Again, difficult to pick up just 3, as capturing these "airshow action" moments is all that we want to do.
With so many great entries, I don't want to be the one who has to select a winner ...

Really difficult to narrow this down to just three isn't it. It's the unusual, the spectacle and the sounds I guess. So, in that order:

Can it sound much better than a 16 ship Spitfire flypast?

It was indeed. 1994 or 95? Always an interesting show was Woodford. Plenty interesting aircraft.

Sound right - a couple of years after the crash.

I remember the low turn after take off - happy days.

Yes Woodford was at its best then

The tornado was 1995, I was in a naughty field too. To be precise it was was just off the Taxiway opposite the flight sheds, He did a better on on the thursday where he almost did what the US Navy Hornet did in 1992, ie, banked on take off almost totalling the wing.

Much missed airshow. Just wish I had a few more pics than I have.
