RIAT 2022 Discussion Thread
Re: RIAT 2022 Discussion Thread
I'm disappointed about the Meteor but the line-up is still stellar - I'm not expecting anything much more to be added so late on now.

Looks like the USAF, US Navy and Qatar Air Force have moved from 'ongoing' to confirmed. I understand that means no more additions from those air arms?
Re: RIAT 2022 Discussion Thread
Nice to know they tried for the Growler. A fully tooled up CAG would have been nice on static. Maybe next year?
Re: RIAT 2022 Discussion Thread
I'd like to thank the ops team for such fabulous work in getting such a brilliant RIAT together this year, they are all clearly enthusiasts too and it shows... Bravo!
Re: RIAT 2022 Discussion Thread
I found it difficult to put my finger on it, but I think you’ve summed it up nicely. I just get the vibe from RIAT this year that the whole team and people behind this are really excited about the show, too.
Communications this year, bar some technical issues re late website updates etc, have been awesome.

Re: RIAT 2022 Discussion Thread
With today's update I think its fair to say no more flying participants (I would be absolutely shocked). I do wonder however if we will get some flypasts. But you get the feeling it would have been announced already. Nonetheless I am happy with the line-up, just hope the weather turns up
Re: RIAT 2022 Discussion Thread
The B-52 is just a great, great addition.
Not a complaint, of course - I was really hoping for a B-1, but obviously I know its not for lack of trying on the organisers part.
Shame about the Meteor but no way am I complaining.
This time last year I was planning a trip to Bournemouth to see the Typhoon because I was so desperate to see fast jets... now we're looking forward to a dual Typhoon role demo!

Re: RIAT 2022 Discussion Thread
Not necessarily, I'm sure if the USAF or Qatar sent a letter saying "we can add an aircraft to your static display...." DBH wouldn't say "no, sorry we've moved you to green on our website..."bobby 1211 wrote: ↑Thu 23 Jun 2022, 11:24 amLooks like the USAF, US Navy and Qatar Air Force have moved from 'ongoing' to confirmed. It'll only be a few bits and pieces now, but I'm still hoping for a late Japanese or Indian addition!

Re: RIAT 2022 Discussion Thread
Not necessarily. They go to the green confirmed as soon as the first aircraft is announced. However, there has been multiple USAF aircraft added in various updates since they were first moved to confirmed.bobby 1211 wrote: ↑Thu 23 Jun 2022, 11:24 amLooks like the USAF, US Navy and Qatar Air Force have moved from 'ongoing' to confirmed. Re: RIAT 2022 Discussion Thread
Have they confirmed that the Czech gripen is definitely not flying?
Re: RIAT 2022 Discussion Thread
It's not on the website....so I'd assume it isn't coming at all at this stage.

No one knows (Well apart from DBH of course). There's been many a year where things have changed in the final few weeks.bobby 1211 wrote: ↑Thu 23 Jun 2022, 11:37 amWith today's update I think its fair to say no more flying participants (I would be absolutely shocked). Re: RIAT 2022 Discussion Thread
This intrigues me, by my count we have ~230 aircraft confirmed at this point so I'm guessing around 20ish to be confirmed (giving some lea way if I'm wrong). Or am I reading into it too much?Air Operations continues to be a hive of activity to ensure arrangements are in place for the 280 aircraft descending on RAF Fairford next month.
I assume there was be lots of visitor aircraft around the weekend.

Re: RIAT 2022 Discussion Thread
not sure that's the case. they probably have the flying lineup sorted but that doesn't mean they've told us everything.bobby 1211 wrote: ↑Thu 23 Jun 2022, 11:37 amWith today's update I think its fair to say no more flying participants (I would be absolutely shocked). last week they told us the USAF weren't sending anything else, now we have a B-52 flying.

Re: RIAT 2022 Discussion Thread
They didn't say USAF were not sending anything else, RIAT Air Ops said nothing from USAF ACC is expected (That is the F22,F35,A10,F16 demos & Heritage Flight) Not the entire USAF itself.rockfordstone wrote: ↑Thu 23 Jun 2022, 11:53 am

Firstly, to try and manage expectations and avoid more wishlisting: As of today, we are not expecting any USAF Air Combat Command demonstration teams to perform in the RIAT 2022 flying display.

Re: RIAT 2022 Discussion Thread
I have 239 on my list but there's still chance of a few more spares. Over the weekend I'd expect to see at least four Italian C-130s, maybe a French C-130 or CN235 twice, Swedish C-130 twice, etc. Switzerland will probably have four movements too, it's fairly easy to get to that 280 number.MorganBW wrote: ↑Thu 23 Jun 2022, 11:49 amThis intrigues me, by my count we have ~230 aircraft confirmed at this point so I'm guessing around 20ish to be confirmed (giving some lea way if I'm wrong). Of course that 280 might not include anything not yet confirmed by the relevant air arms or operators, so could increase.
Re: RIAT 2022 Discussion Thread
Ahh OK, maybe slightly too optimistic, honestly I'd be happy if it said the way it is, anything else is the icing on the cake. I'm waiting for the first cone update thoughcg_341 wrote: ↑Thu 23 Jun 2022, 12:02 pmI have 239 on my list but there's still chance of a few more spares. Shame about the Meteor, with Turkey not attending (so no Phantoms) I don’t feel so bad about missing out on the Departures Day tickets now.

Highlight still the A-4 'scooter' by a long way, followed by the 727.
Lordy it seems a light show, and yes, i know i'll get 'maverick'd' for this, it just doesnt do anything for me.
Too many buzzy things, and for a 'comeback' show i was hoping for a lot better, but all it's done is given me plenty of loo breaks.

Got to love Russianhardware
Re: RIAT 2022 Discussion Thread
Considering the state of the world for the past two years, and military forces being on high alert, the fact a show is even going ahead is superb. As someone who had a few troubles the past couple years (and i’m certain others have too) i’ll be happy to just sit in the grass and watch anything.

Re: RIAT 2022 Discussion Thread
obviously not everyone will enjoy every display. For example I am particularly not looking forward to seeing the Baby blue team, the Mustang X-ray team, RJF, the Silver Swallows, the PC-9M solo and the PC-7 team. Others however might see them as their 'star' items as everyone has a different aircraft taste. Taking into account that the main theme is training and the Ukraine war has made serval aircraft/air arms unable to attend (NATO E-3A, Czech ALCA demo and Gripen, Voyager, KC-10, MiG-21) then its not a bad comeback show.HeyfordDave111 wrote: ↑Thu 23 Jun 2022, 12:22 pmHighlight still the A-4 'scooter' by a long way, followed by the 727.

Not even worth ‘maverick-ing’, to be honest.HeyfordDave111 wrote: ↑Thu 23 Jun 2022, 12:22 pmHighlight still the A-4 'scooter' by a long way, followed by the 727.
