Hence that the age old joke of the "gap", the ones where I haven't made that comment have a show scheduled for RIAT weekend.

No USAF Display teams on the USAF 75th anniversary. Surely some are going to come surely.

Maybe they're a bit busy celebrating IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY.

Don't worry there's still the B1, B52, B2, F15, F16 flypasts and an LN F35

From what I remember, RIAT very rarely pops up on USAF schedules that come out of ICAS. It's usually in the new year when things get moved around and changed that RIAT is confirmed. All is subject to change. I am sure DBH are still in deep discussion with the USAF as to how to best honour the 75th Anniversary of the USAF and what will be attending.

The ICAS schedule release is usually only North American dates and very few International dates if any are shown at ICAS..

🤣👍🏼. Interesting point, but surely they should come to RIAT so we don't get all ratty and throw our toys out the pram. I mean, selfish or what...

It’s not my place to go rambling on about something that isn’t really relevant at this stage. Didn’t mean to have a go at the Teams I’m sure everyone will look forward to RIAT regardless

I think JasonT is right. More often than not (unless I am completely misremembering!) most recent RIATs that have seen USAF flying assets didn’t have them announced at ICAS, I think. I can only think of the F-22 in 2016(?) off the top of my head.

i suspect any US involvement will be held back until such time they decide to do a mass drop to align with the 75th anniversary of the USAF

When the lists came out, I was quite surprised to see that apart from the previously announced Thunderbirds list, none of the 'standard display items' are listed for Edwards AFB show either - a reasonable hunch that the show there and/or Nellis would be 'THE' show to go to next year.

I think there are a lot of announcements to come yet. It's still a long, long way to RIAT 2022 and maybe 3 or 4 more COVID variants to be discovered and hand-wrung over that could derail the whole event once more.

At least we're getting Christmas this year :)

Edwards was on my list to attend next year along with RIAT too. It's understandable that RIAT hasn't been included at this stage but a big surprise for Edwards. 75th anniversary of breaking the sound barrier on one of the show days too so multiple anniversaries to be marked. Having been convinced RIAT would go ahead last year, I'm now very much in the cautious camp of waiting to see what happens although accommodation is already booked. I can only hope there's a semblance of normality to foreign travel which allows a trip to Edwards too. I've missed it a lot.

I shall see you both at Edwards then! I too was concerned yesterday but chatting it through with the other staffers there are at least 3 of the teams with potential to be added plus with Edwards there is always the home team and that chance of the B-21 appearing, even if it is on the ground only. I understand the Yeager event is on the Friday before the show, will be interesting to see what they do as the X-1 mounting point still exists but this is at South base.

Whatever happens with RIAT next year, I'll just be glad to see the show survive to grow again if need-be and to see everyone again.

Good shout, V. Static of otherwise, a U-2 at RIAT would be a gem of a participant.

Now that the basing at Fairford appears to be, at least for the time being, a long term thing, perhaps it’s a semi-reasonable hope that we might see something from the 9th RW.

A static U-2 with the crews getting all the specific gear like the flying suits, selling patches that have flown higher than any other at the show, crews talking about long missions etc would be great. Likewise, a bit of circuit-bashing from one of the based birds with the chase car zooming behind would be one of those unique airshow spectacles. The type of thing that kids remember.

I would also think that there is a fair chance of a kc-46 and a slight chance of a f-15ex for riat as it is also a Farnborough year and i dare say dod would like a few sales for said aircraft.

That's an interesting thought. One of my favourite aspects of Oshkosh is the Theatre in the Woods and the chance to meet some interesting personalities. I've seen / listened to Yeager, Aldrin, Bob Hoover and more that way. There's something similar at the Monaco GP for the drivers which is always good. Perhaps RIAT could do something similar and interview - on stage - visiting aircrew, display pilots, national display teams and perhaps even visiting personalities - test pilots, astronauts, etc? It could be restricted to the morning before the displays get into full swing and advertised when someone specific is on stage? If it was recorded it could be used in both the radio show and dvd. It'd certainly be something I'd be interested in.
