Sorry Bob, but I stand by my claim !
Tuesday was Winter Solstice and the shortest day.
I quote:
The actual moment of the solstice was at 15:59 GMT on Tuesday 21 December. The reason the celebrations at Stonehenge are on Wednesday is because it is the dawn of the day when the days start to lengthen again.
Back on topic shortly with some sunny Spitfire pics

Duxford Wednesday 22nd December:

Four more Spitfires were moved into Airspace this morning for the forthcoming 'Evolution Of An Icon' exhibition which starts on Monday 27th.

Very pleased to get the two Fourteens in one frame:

Duxford Tuesday 28th December:

A first look at the 'Evolution Of An Icon' exhibition today. Very well laid out, but low light and busy crowds mean a challenging environment for the photographer !
Here's the first try, I'll add more over the next 44 days of the event !

Even at 3.45 today there were a couple of dozen people wandering around the hall. I was surprised how busy the site was for a cold, wet, miserable bank holiday.

Fantastic to see the collection of Spitfires. Shame that Christophe Jacquard's Mk 19 reverted to the proper Griffon/prop combination - it would have been interesting to have a contra-prop on show as part of the evolution even if not the right mark. Anyone know how the Seafire F.46 restorations are coming along?

Many thanks to DCW and the rest of you who keep us up to date with events at Duxford - always greatly appreciated!

Don't suppose you'd be allowed to use a tripod? Real shame they couldn't just turn the lights up a bit.

Plenty tripods being used when I was there on Monday.

Tripods, unlike stepladders, are not verboten!...

Tried a little ND filter shot of ~60s using tripod - maybe need to stretch it to 2 mins but even then groups of people listening to talks would probably still show up.

As a DX volunteer I know I am biased, but the Spitfire exhibition is a real draw - 500 pre-booked yesterday alone -; I'd encourage anybody to visit if possible. (and a bit of selling - the membership is well worth it if you go more than once with the flying days part of the package as well as the Churchill War Rooms and HMS Belfast. My favourite flying day last year was the flying model a/c. I also found out yesterday about a membership tweak - you can now apparently upgrade your day ticket to IWM membership on the day - "sold" a few like that yesterday)
