RAF Museum, Hendon 2022 - *01DEC22*
Re: RAF Museum, Hendon 2022
" I just wish the place wasn't so dam secretive about what their plans are."
It's a museum funded by public money - why would they think that they should share plans with the public!!

Re: RAF Museum, Hendon 2022
It is crazy isn't it! Trouble is the RAFM is almost trying to de conflictize its selfelf, all a bit woke really. I would love to have a Q&A with the museum directors. Contrast the RAFM and the FAAM. Just before Covid I went on the FAAM Cobham hall tour. This was conducted by the museum curator, he was ex FAA and knew his exhibits 100%, he was very open to talk about the museum. How they would love more space but it wont happen anytime soon, happy to explain for instance about the Skyraider outside etc. Sadly the RAFM has been taken over by people who never served and have no idea of history, they just want people through the door.

RAF Museum, Hendon - 28th April 2022
A few more record shots of the changes in H5 ‘War in the Air 1918-1980’’.
One noticeable addition to H5 is the Me.163B-1a Komet/191614 which recently arrived from RAFM Cosford. A bit of re-jigging and movement of airframes have taken place since my last visit with the most noticeable being the nose of Victor K.MK.2/XM717 which is now next to the Vulcan. The B-25 and 190 are still awaiting collection and the EH-101 Heliliner is still in the car park round the back of H3.

Re: RAF Museum, Hendon 2022
Any idea where the EH-101 is going? Another Museum? Not surprised it has been removed, only saw it once & it just didn’t look as if it fitted in. Also is the Gazelle still at Hendon?

Interesting pics - any idea why there's a radiation warning sign? Luminous paint on the dials maybe?

Yes its for the radiation from the instruments.
Why on earth no-one has grabbed a rattle can and painted that repair panel on the Battle after it was dropped drives me potty

Having visited for the first time in several years yesterday I can honestly say what a disappointment. What on earth has happened it seems so run down and everything misplaced. Is there plans to upgrade and sort the place out?
Re: RAF Museum, Hendon 2022 - *01DEC22*
They’ve recently spent £23 million on ‘upgrading and sorting out’ Hendon. What you see is what you get.

As recently as in 2016? when Hendon was awarded £23 million to refurbish the site for the centenary of the RAF in 2018 and we ended up with the BoB Hall destroyed but did get a very nice café out of it or is this another £23 million?.
