my first encounter with the 495th's F-35s Lakenheath 12-01-2022

Post by andygolfer »

I went to Lakenheath last Wednesday and had almost continuous action from the various F-15 establishments and then 2 of the F-35s which did a series of overshoots , unrestricted climbs and other high energy manoeuvres for about 20 minutes - excellent entertainment. The day finished with a beautiful sunset and I managed a few landing shots along the approach - great end to a great day.

I'm still going through my photos but here are some of my F-35 ones and a couple of sunsets...

Some top images there, Andy! The last one is very nice!

Most of the bathtub (F35) images show sharpening halos at the border of the sky and dark parts of the aircraft, particularly the tyres. They will likely be absent from large-file versions of the images, but quite obvious here. There's an easy fix, if you can be bothered, that's on YouTube.

If you're not interested in CC, please ignore my second paragraph. :grinning:
Cheers,

thanks George - that's why I always put C&C welcome. I probably oversharpened slightly although (oddly) it's far less noticeable on the first edits, at least the two I just looked at closely but more pronounced on the watermarked version so wonder if it crept in there. Process wise I used Faststone for the initial editing at the original size. Then I did a reduction in size to 1600 pixels wide using Canon DPP editing tool but for the watermarked version I used Faststone again where I did the size reduction and watermark in the same edit. The latter reduced the file size a lot, 216Kb against 1.1Mb for one unwatermarked edit and 974kb to 200Kb for the other (these were the last 2 pics of 19-5476 BTW).
I'm a bit basic with my editing and maybe I rushed them a bit, I'll have fiddle and when I've done that I'll try a re-edit to see if I can improve them.

thanks again for the feedback - really appreciate it

Andy, I sent you an email with a link to the YouTube video. I'll also put the link here because others may find it useful. I'm sure that, like skinning a cat, there are plenty of other solutions.

Love the Eagles at sunset from a very nice set.

There's no comparison as to what's the better looking machine. Those F-35 tails are too short!
