Could this possibility be the last four engine jet aircraft to ever land at Duxford?

I can't think of any other contenders that would need to / could, although I suspect I'm missing something glaringly obvious.

its sad that the IWM and DAS couldn't agree to add this airframe to the collection without loss of the Herald. One of our best airliners for sales and export certainly fits in with DAS's aims and being an ex RAF aircraft it could be swung that its within the IWMs remit representing a modern era that's not represented atm.

G-APWJ never served in the RAF -
The British Aircraft Collection’s Herald was built at the Handley Page factory at Radlett, Herts – the tenth Herald 201 off the production line. Its first flight took place on 29 May 1963 and it was delivered to British United (Channel Island) Airways Jersey Airport on 13 June 1963. On 1 November 1968 it was re-registered to British United Airways, and on 20 July 1970 it was re-registered again, this time to British Island Airways, who operated it until January 1980, when it was re-registered to Air UK and based at Norwich. This aircraft flew the last scheduled passenger service of the Herald, from Leeds to Belfast in 1985. (from DAS Website)
and what conflict did the H.P. Herald take part in to qualify as part of the IWM's remit?.

He's referring to "this airframe", the BAe146.

Really glad this RAF 146 has been preserved. I remember them coming into service in 1986.

Such a shame its predecessor - Andover XS790 was not preserved...or another HS.748.

The replacement for the BAE 146s are two A321XLRs with a particularly luxurious interiors. OK but are the Airbus aircraft suitable for Northolt?

They don't need to go into Northolt so it is irrelevant. They have been operating quite satisfactorily from their Stansted base since they started operations. But, from what I can gather, the 146 direct replacement is going to be an executive type and not the 321s

The MoD are advertising for tenders for a replacement, the A321s are only temporary.

Thank you for that.
Stansted isn't a particularly suitable base for VVIP transports as it's too far from Whitehall and even further from Windsor. A couple of Global Express's or similar aeroplanes should do the trick.

Tell that to the Americans and all the Middle Eastern nations that use it.

If the British Government used Stansted for a prolonged period it would render Northolt surplus and the airfield would become another housing estate. It has survived until now because of it's convenience for Whitehall and Windsor.
Other governments don't use Northolt because they tend to use aircraft which are too big for the runway, but I'm sure you know that.

Interesting. I thought most of the Arabs use Farnborough but maybe that's just for Ascot and Harrods.
