North Weald Diary 2022

Post by LN Strike Eagle »

Grabbed an hour or so at North Weald this afternoon to see Lynx AH7 up on a test flight in some nice light. I think this was the third flight, having first taken to the air in December and then again yesterday.

Absolutely splendid, mate.

I’m so excited to see (more than one!) Lynx pootling about again.

I think the Project Lynx team have a second on the way to airworthiness, too?

Lovely stuff Dan, a great looking cab in some delicious light! Looking forward to seeing this and the HH cab later in the season, hopefully

Amazing to think in the last few years the helicopter scene has gone from the odd one or two here and there, to probably at least 20 airworthy vintage machines. The complete opposite to classic jets!

Amazing stuff, so good to see one in the air again, even better to see some camo on an aircraft.

This so good to see after following the project on social media! Excellent shots Dan! Hopefully I'll be able to catch it myself soon!

Thanks chaps. Admittedly I've not been since September myself, but I haven't seen you around North Weald for ages James. Hopefully we'll catch up soon.

I'm happy with the shots, but they were all quite samey from the cafe with only 300mm, so here's just a couple more that are slightly different.

Really excellent set in great light. More than a little envious of these shots.

Several of the based jets were busy last week but as I was lending a hand at Hangar 11, only managed to grab a couple of shots of the Gnat as it returned from the last flight of the day.

All quiet on the Indian Gnat Nigel.

Handful from today with Hangar 11's Spitfire PR.XI PL965 out to White Waltham and back; first time I've photographed this one for about 18 months after a period of maintenance.

Also noted today that the Russian stars had been removed from the resident L-29 Delfin.

Caught outside Weald Aviation hangar on 24/03/22 Scout XV138 G-SASM
ImageIMG_7178 by paul marsh, on Flickr

Out on the field Lynx XZ179 was waiting engine runs. Inside Weald Aviation hangar were..
Lynx HMA8 ZD252 and another army Lynx.
Wasps NZ3909 and HMS Aurora 422 plus maybe one other Wasp.
Scouts G-WDST and at least two more.
Any id of the other Scouts / Wasps / Lynx please ?

Without photos it’s hard to say but they have two other Army Lynx - XZ678 and XZ188

Look up ‘North Weald Heritage Aviation’ on Facebook and Instagram, they give good regular updates on their projects that might be able to help you tie up some loose ends.

Hi
Don’t suppose there’s any chance of photos of current restorations of the lighhning cockpit sections is there please , particularly single seater XR759 as I was her owner for best part of 30 years when we saved the cockpit before rest went to scrap ,
Would be appreciated very much if current owner would allow

Andy
I never take photo`s in the hangar, Don`t want to abuse the situation as I was asked not to, not much has been done on the cockpits as far as I could see.
Sorry about that.
cheers

A few from today. Peter took the Mustang out for lunch and Aero Legends were flying passengers again, although the Spitfire seemed to have a quiet day and was tucked away by mid-afternoon.

There were a few jet movements from the JP3 and L-29 too, but I tend not to bother with those now as there's an awful lot of background clutter and they're mostly backlit from where they now operate.

XZ179/G-NCKS flew three times today, including a local sortie which saw it perform an hour of general handling down the southern end of the airfield..

We popped in to NW on Sunday, was hoping to catch any of the jets but no such luck. We saw the Aero Legends Spitfire / Harvard operating though so that was nice.

Can anyone confirm which Dak is in one of the Weald Aviation hangars ? cheers in advance !
