Topic of the week #13 - Ukraine

Post by capercaillie »

A little bit difficult this one with the tragedy unfolding in Eastern Europe, there is no doubt that since the 1996 RIAT at Fairford where the Ukrainian Air Force made their UK show debut, they have brought a huge amount of pleasure with the aircraft they have displayed.

Already we are hearing reports that the Air Force has been eradicated, so the likelihood of ever seeing these types again is extremely unlikely and what may have happened to the likes of the An225 at Gostomel is also uncertain.

The appalling and unnecessary loss of life being brought to bear is far more significant than any lump of metal we decide to aim our lenses at, but this will hopefully bring reminders of happier times with our Ukrainian colleagues. Five pictures of Ukrainian aircraft, past or present, military or civilian, home or abroad.

Hi chaps,

Paul, a very honourable choice of topic matter. Nice one mate. Here's my 5.....

I have a copy of 'Guardians of Ukraine' from Hikoki, covering the AF from 1992. It will now make a sobering read. Am (literally) praying for all those affected.

What a nice sentiment at this time ! I have searched high and low to find a few relevant photos of Ukrainian registered aircraft ... All civilian I'm afraid ... Two from Doncaster November 2015 ... And three rather dodgy images from Egypt December 2013

Keith.

Big thanks to everyone who contributed to the thread and reminding us of some good times with friendly participation at shows, the likes of which we possibly won't get to see again. Some great Mriya shots from Keith and Sarah and the two big Cocks from Derek and Tomasz.

Ultimately though it has to come down to a picture of Colonel Oleksandr “Grey Wolf” Oksanchenko, who has tragically perished last week in this totally unnecessary invasion, but brought great joy to audiences displaying the Su27 around European shows through to 2018, Phil's close up just being edged out to Stuart's ultra sharp topside against the dark clouds. Over to you Stuart.
