Re: Duxford Summer Air Show - 18th & 19th June
Good lord that’s a depressing photo
Re: Duxford Summer Air Show - 18th & 19th June
I enjoyed today more than I thought I would have. The MiG and Vampire are a very interesting pair, and the Strikemasters flew a really nice polished display.
I paid for earlybird tickets months ago, partly to support the organisation - and partly because i'm so starved of airshows i'll take what I can get: but today was not really value for money and absolutely needed some heavy metal, or a big contingent of warbirds to fix it.
I didn't complain about Cosford at all - in fact I praised it before, during and after the show. Unfortunately i'm not sure I can do that about this show.
Like others this will be my last time buying advanced tickets for Duxford without seeing the participation list, and unfortunately I don't think i'll attend again unless they get something really special lined up... (yes the Patruille Suisse fit that description!)
p.s. One disappointment was the great war display team who were lacking their usual pyros. Personally I think these really add to the display. Word from an IWM volunteer is that "the powers that be" insisted on no pyros as it would potentially upset some attendees given the situation in Ukraine... absolute lunacy.

Jesus Christ a museum about conflict worrying about that the GWDT did also mention it was something that was beyond their control

To add fuel to the fire … not sure if anyone saw a post in the Duxford Facebook groups a month or so ago about IWM saying they no longer want the (free) help of 2523 squadron air cadets. Bonkers. Just like some of their other decisions

I've seen a video of the Wildcat taking off for its display, filmed from the members enclosure. About 75% of the seats are empty.UKTopgun wrote: ↑Sat 18 Jun 2022, 8:41 pmOne slight thought re this pic, were people on the adjacent grass as I know many don't like to sit on hardstandings?Pen Pusher wrote: ↑Sat 18 Jun 2022, 6:31 pmDuxford Summer Air Show M11 end @ 4pm. That's my camera bag propping up the fence.
If that pic does represent the crowd numbers however, then wow! IWM really did mess up this show.
Re: Duxford Summer Air Show - 18th & 19th June
Yep, I sat in there for a bit at the start of the flying and that’s probably about right, at least 75% of the seats were empty
I didn’t stay in there long as there are now no tea or coffee facilities in the enclosure, even to buy.

The classic wings rapide has had an incident on landing, no more info at this time
Re: Duxford Summer Air Show - 18th & 19th June
Update, no injuries reported
Re: Duxford Summer Air Show - 18th & 19th June
P47 and Wingwalkers both scrubbed, NHS Spit replaces the MK1... Thin gruel indeed
Ben has a huge job trying to big up this display haha

Cost of Living generally, energy & fuel prices specifically all add to the fact that the target "Family" audience would rather have food on the table than the laughable diet of aero-tripe provided at this event!
The Management at Duxford are completely un-hinged (could stop there!) in their lost connection with the attendee demographic. Most all recent changes have been 'minus' & their attitude to the meal-ticket core enthusiast is pathetic! On that basis it's Gods' Will that this event is under-subscribed & rained-on!
PS- I'm a atheist!

Does anyone have any further information on the Dragon Rapide incident?
Re: Duxford Summer Air Show - 18th & 19th June
The crowd today is significantly smaller than yesterday. Main Museum car park almost empty, members enclosure almost empty, no queues at the food stands.

They seem to think it was “a sell out show”. Perhaps they’re owned by the Mail ?!!

For what is perceived as one of the major shows on the British airshow calendar that is rather embarrassing for the organisers

Looking at the Duxford Summer Show 18/19th June it's devoid of public? Hardly any enthusiasts on the crowdline?
We used to trade up at the site by the American Museum, the whole length of the fence was covered in chairs by about 10.30am each day and the grass area filled with public watching the aircraft going back to their parking spots.
We heard there were 20,000 Saturday from a food vendor, but later heard it was 8,000? Sunday even worse crowd numbers. Glad we did not stump up for a pitch. Wonder what other traders were there?
