Orange-Caritat Spotting

Post by JJC »

Morning everyone

I’ll be down in France in June and want to visit Orange to see the M2000s.

Are the authorities generally okay with people spotting in the area, or is it a no go?

Many thanks

Scramble's airfield guide reports good open access to a number of locations around the base with good opportunities for both photography and spotting, including at least one location where a three-step ladder is recommended. There is no mention of "difficulties" with the local authorities.

There's a decent airfield guide over on Spotterguide.net that covers all of the available locations.
The authorities are generally ok, compared to other French bases anyway, but they they get a bit uncomfortable if you stay near the fence or if you've got a ladder.

Hopefully you're visiting in the first few weeks of June as the 2000Cs have their retirement ceremony on 23rd June and the twin sticks will be relocating to Nancy.

If you want some French action there are some Rafales in for the week at Lakenheath.

Thanks everyone! Very useful.

Dean - I’ll be down from Friday 17th - 24th, so hoping to catch the retirement event and see what’s happening the few days prior.

Good to know they tolerate spotters.

Many thanks for all your help.
