Apaches and Dauphin at Shobdon

Post by TJJ »

I went to Shobdon for a cup of tea and some cake after a local walk on Thursday. There were a couple of Dauphins doing circuits, which were later joined by a pair of Apaches which came in for fuel. One of the Dauphins returned for more circuits as the Apaches departed in clouds of dust and grass clippings. The problem at Shobdon is that you are shooting into the sun, so not the best images, but a nice surprise nevertheless.

Its been quite busy recently with hot-fuelling Pumas and Chinooks as well. The industrial estate is quite good when the Dauphins are on circuits for getting the light behind you.

No, officially they re based "somewhere in Wiltshire" but they are detached to Credenhill, Hereford, in reality they are based there. There is no runway as such at Credenhill, so hence they're regularly on circuits at Shobdon. Not to steal from the thread, but below is from the far end of the industrial estate, make sure you don't get locked in if anyone visits, if outside working hours best to park outside the last gate and follow the road on foot, it is a public footpath route. No use if the refuelling helicopters cut across the boundaries, but they can be easily seen from the viewing enclosure on the Shobdon side.
