RIAT 23 - From Wednesday to Monday

Post by Reaper41 »

First posting of my images anywhere other than personal social medias, hope you enjoy!
Settings and equipment listed for those interested, edits in Lightroom.

Although I didn't enjoy getting soaked numerous times across the week, it made for some much nicer and varied photography than last year!

P&V East for the Wednesday and Thursday arrivals.

Highlights for me were the RAF C17 break to land, German Tornados, the Thursday evening Fursan Al Emarat display followed by that amazing light for the Phantom arrival, what a beauty that is!

Show Days

Friday for me was ducking in and out of the FRIAT stand, horrendous conditions but fantastic for fluff, some incredible flying on show by all who dared enter the skies.

Saturday I spent with family in the static park trying some arty shots, with Sunday being my main show photography day from the FRIAT grandstand.

Highlights personally being the French C-135FR, dual hover of the harrier and F35B on the Sunday, the harrier solo hovering in a downpour, German tornados landing in the wet, and the presence of the B52 coming out of the grey skies to the west.

I realised I hadn't taken a lot of photos of the SK.60 display, it was so mesmerising it seems I was too busy watching to click the camera on, what a fantastic bit of flying, and deserves the acclaim it's received.

The quality of these are phenomenal, photos from the Friday are nicely done despite the weather and I particularly like the photo of the SK-60 taking off in the gloomy conditions as with the landing phantom

Tornados departing are really nice. Crackled effect on the Buff's nose works well almost looks like its own storm.

These are fabulous, especially considering the awful conditions.

I don't usually like to criticise others photography, as, lets face it, photography is a very subjective matter, and what many people may like, others may not.

Having said the above... ;-) my only suggestion would be re photo 9 of the ME-262, and would just bring in the right hand border of the photo in a bit as the right wing-tip is pretty much out of shot, and the left wing-tip has some space from the edge of the photo, if you see what I mean (never was good at explaining things lol...........). May just help the balance of it ?

I'll stick up my photos eventually, but they are not a patch on what you have got here, unfortunately, and will wear my tin hat fairly firmly on my head lol !

Thank you, a good point on the 262 photo, I have since re-visited and edited, and looks a lot better!

I love seeing all of the photos, working in the industry it's great to see the enjoyment that everyone can get from all levels of photography, you don't need an expensive camera to take a great shot!

Thank you Caper, the B52 edit is one easily taken too far. Amazing to get so up close and personal with the buff.

Thank you! I must say the camera (in rain cover) certainly performed better than myself in the wet, my boots didn't fully dry until the Monday!

Welcome! Cool set.

Some of the static photography shows a good eye, well done.

If you wanted some C&C (do feel free to ignore though!), if you can, try and centre or balance the aircraft in the frame. It sort of echoes what Airwolfhound suggests.

As an example, that Su-22 approach show would look even better than it currently does if the top left corner was pulled down and in just a little bit.

I like your signature picture; is one intake blank deeper than the other one?

Thank you, I didn't get down the west end when the crew were there and the covers were off, I do believe one is in further than the other!

Depending on what is there next year, I might try west on the arrivals days as something different to try!

How do you find west in general? I like some of the shots from there, but the infamous Charlie South taxiway puts me off!
