Duxford BoB 2023 - Friday

Post by Airwolfhound »

I attended Duxford yesterday to see any rehearsals and arrivals for the Battle of Britain Airshow being held this weekend.

It was all a bit quiet in the morning, but kicked off quite nicely in the afternoon with a number of Spitfires taking to the air. Also a small number of arrivals were seen.

Yesterday, there was also a small event being held by a number of re-enactors commemorating the pilot Julian Kowalski who took part in the Battle of Britain on September 15th 1940. His son, also called Julian, was in attendance and was treated to a flying display of a Hurricane painted up in his father's markings. Television cameras were there, as was Darren Harbar, to record the event. Darren noticed a small handful of other photographers milling around the area (myself and Helired3 (Ian Harris) included, and so invited us within the enclosure to take our own photographs. I had heard some negativity around Darren, but to be fair to the bloke he was more interested in us getting good shots, than he himself, a genuine top bloke from what I noticed :-)

Anyway, here are some of my shots from the day, not in any particular order, and with some dodgy editing which I won't apologise for as I quite like it anyway lol ;-)

Very nice set mate. I have to agree with you Darren and the team from the polish heritage flight were so accommodating Darren did his up most to make sure we got some great shots.

Very nice. I particularly like the sepia-toned set of images.

Right, no disrespect to those taking part but the B&W photos make me think of the following line from The Battle of Britain...

"But the essential arithmetic is that our young men will have to shoot down their young men at the rate of four to one, if we're to keep pace at all." :grinning:
...and pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in Space cos there's bugger all down here on Earth!

Excellent shots Tim but they are all Yaks in your last picture. The lead aircraft is a Yak 18T four seater and not a Spartan.

Nice edits, what filter did you use for the black and white/sepia style ones?
