Evening all, looking at potentially doing this one and wondered if anyone has ever done it before without using a car. Was looking at staying in one of the hotels near the base which is about a 15 minute walk from the north gate and was hoping you’d be able to just walk then to one of the shuttle buses that take you to the main entrances. I’ve reached out to the show and not yet had a response so any guidance on this would be great.
Cheers
Joe
Last year I hired a car, but plenty of my colleagues went via uber from downtown San Diego and had no real problems.
Cheers

Chris

The Friday is usually a smaller show, its more for veterans and visiting schools than a public day.

Tickets for Grandstands etc are now for sale. I took a front row in the reserved Box seats (102B seat 1) for the Sunday and the grandstand (not reserved) for the other days. Front rows in the box seats are going pretty fast

Got two tickets to the grandstand hopefully for the Sunday, tickets don’t really show much. Can’t go back in to see

I think the grandstand is 'sit anywhere' - it is only the reserved box that is numbered.

Yep, I have tickets in the grandstand and it is first come, first served in there as to where you sit. So if you want the top row, get there nice and early.

A silly question perhaps but I’m hoping to attend this year.

With the restrictions on camera bags and the clear bag policy in place. Are people just carrying their camera/lens in over their shoulder as such?

I have a 100-400 and its clearly not going to fit in a small bag.

Thanks

Tom

Depends on the size of your clear bag - my sigma 60-600 fits in my clear bag when not on the camera and I've been to multiple US shows with it.

Whilst it is a challenge physically, I usually go into US shows with my 5d around my neck fitted with 24-105mm for static, and my 7D2 fitted with 100-400mm over my shoulder. My body gives me a telling off at the end of a show day, but no gain without some pain! Might only take the 5d set up on one of the show days this year and <cough cough> use my mobile phone for static.

However,
I have a reasonably sized clear bag that my 5D and 24-105mm lens would fit into along with sunscreen and bottle of water. The other camera can go over my shoulder.

Well now Riat has been and gone .. the countdown to this holiday with airshows is getting closer and closer! I'm going to start trying to get my head around what to do for Miramar, what to bring etc so I'll be reading through your old messages. If I have any stupid questions that arise .. I apologies in advance for asking! Everyone has been a big help in here already. Not long to go!

Yep Yep, Funnily enough I did that last night, says it can take a few days to come through. Don't see why I wouldn't be accepted so all going well should be all set by the end of the week.

Be worth having a read of the info on the airshow website - especially as a non-US citizen/alien. Have your passport with you.

Good luck - if you're wearing a Hammers top, keep your eye out for a Villa top. That could be me :grinning:

I certainly will keep a look out for a fellow claret and blue !

I think I looked a while back at the 'dos and dont's' for a UK citizen and seemed a bit mad. I'll have a proper look soon and get the passport ready!

I don't suppose you could provide a link to where you purchased your bag please? I am concerned about purchasing something that does not conform to what they are looking to see.

Cheers! I can't seem to find one with similar dimensions but i assume they won't be too hot on a couple of centimeters difference (i hope).
