Military Weekend - 1 & 2 June 2024

Post by Professor_M »

The first announcement for the flying display on 2nd June is Albatros D.Va (G-WAHT)...
We are thrilled to announce the return of the Albatros D.Va (G-WAHT) to Shuttleworth again this year.
Flying alongside The Collection’s First World War aircraft at our Military Air Show this coming June, the Albatros D.Va is a firm favourite for enthusiasts and amateurs alike.
As one of the most numerous German fighter aeroplanes built during ‘The Great War’, our Military Weekend will be a fitting setting to see this historic aircraft take to the skies alongside its former rivals from the Shuttleworth Collection.
The aircraft is operated by the WW1 Aviation Heritage Trust, a charity set up to provide an enduring flying collection of World War I Allied and German aeroplanes.

TE517 added today, to fly alongside AR501 in a Czechoslovak tribute...
We are delighted to announce that Supermarine Spitfire LF Mk IXe will be taking to the skies at our Military Air Show on Sunday 2nd June!
Operated by 517 Limited, this aircraft was recovered by Robs Lamplough in the 1980s and brought back to the UK where it underwent an extensive restoration and flew again in its original colours in April 2023.
Our Military Air Show will offer visitors the rare chance to see Spitfires Mk Vc AR501 and Mk IXe TE517 flying together as a fitting tribute to the RAF Czechoslovak Squadrons.
To secure your place to witness the unique spectacle, head to www.shuttleworth.org/military-weekend-2024/

Mustang "Jersey Jerk" announced for this show...
Air Show Announcement!
Fresh from the paint shop, we are delighted to announce P-51 Mustang ‘Jersey Jerk’ will be joining us at our Military air show on Sunday 2nd June.
Built under licence by Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation (CAC), this aircraft was delivered to the Royal Australian Air Force in 1948 and spent most of its time in storage before being sold for scrap. Fast forward to 1997 when restoration work was begun to return the aircraft to airworthiness which was completed in January 2002.
Arriving in the UK from Australia last year, the aircraft was recently repainted to represent P-51D Mustang ‘Jersey Jerk’ of 361st Fighter Squadron, 356th Fighter Group flown by Major Donald Strait and is now operated by Fighter Aviation Engineering Ltd.

Shuttleworth's replies to someone's comments on Facebook confirms that this will be on the ground at Shuttleworth (as will the Spitfire XIV for the Best of British show).

Do you think it’s likely the Hawker Sea Fury or Tempest will make an appearance considering they are at Duxford ?

I've booked my ticket for the show but it does seem odd that there isn't a C-47 appearing.
Not everyone can get to the Dakotas weekend.

They’re already attending events at North Weald and Duxford, as well as transiting to France on that day.

If you want to see Dakotas at Old Warden they will be there this coming weekend.
