Farnborough Airshow 2024, not hoping for much but hopefully they can pull something interesting from RIAT to display

Display at Farnborough, that's a laugh these days. Couple of flat flypasts and endex.

Long gone are those days when avid visitors stood close to the runway in long coats (similar to the dodgy flasher type!) & watched the displays of ultra low-flying aircraft from un-fenced areas, just a whisker away from tragic consequences!
Then latterly the landowners outside the airfield were allowed housing development up to the public boundary road.

Subsequently, multi-storey commercial development within the original RAE Airfield fenceline! Then add-in the onerous Butt-armoured H&S. & CAA. Regulations & you have the untenable venue Farnborough has become. Sterile, Safe & = Boring!

Who cares about F'boro - more like can't Fairford get something that's going to be at F'boro ?
Shame I first went in 76 and already its reputation was better than the reality - and been decline since (apart from the amazing Russian invasion in the late 80s/ early 90s)

Wishing for those days again without a hope! Not checking back, I can recall in different years a Mig 29, Mig 31,SU-24, SU-27, YAK-141. Mi-26, AN-72, AN-124 (the AN-22 with the spare engine that continued beyond the end of the runway & nearly parked in the Fleet Canal?) & the AN-225.

That 1990 Mriya flying Display on the Sunday Press Event was amazing. The World's largest aircraft flown like a Fighter jet & even did a Touch & Go! I stood out by the Golf Course & shot a whole 36 roll during one 360°orbit. Fantastic!

PS: I despise Putin for busting-up the 'Dream'.

Yes the shows from 1984 onwards were incredible for anyone interested in Soviet designed hardware. Up to the 1998 show I believe we had seen the following types from various exhibitors:

MiG21, MiG29, MiG31, MiG-AT
Su24, Su25, Su27, Su28, Su30, Su35, Su37 plus the aerobatic prop jobs
Tu22M, Tu204, Tu214
Il76, Il78, Il86, Il96, Il103, Il114
M55
An72, An74, An124, An225 plus An22 bringing parts for the 124
Yak38, Yak141
Mi17, Mi26, Mi34
Ka50

those in bold taking part in the flying programme at some stage, the MiG31 practised but never flew on a show day. Various different Fulcrum and Flanker models were exhibited in the flying displays over the multi-day formats.

I used to work on the airfield - but could not see the approach or runway from the workshop.

It's par for the course over recient shows. Because its now 99% trade show they wont reveal trade aircraft until the exhibitors want them to. I doubt if Friday will have anything radically diffrent from Mon-thurs apart from a load of the static dissapearing on Wednesday and Thursday. Will be interesting to see if Boeing bring any airliners? They used to have a press day around now and that was followed by a general view of what was on offer but not even heard anything about that this year.

For any other show, that would be leaving it late, but presumably for most interested in the show, they're more focused on exhibition space and networking, and the Friday again more about careers and inspiring school-children, rather than attracting people with a participation list.

Farnborough may be a shadow of its former self, but there'll almost certainly be a handful of different and interesting types on static display or flying, that to me makes it worthwhile attending nonetheless.

Let’s be honest we can’t expect much. Probably an Airbus, Boeing and maybe Embraer display but ILA Berlin is having F35 demo so who knows. Nothing much that anyone knows on Pioneers of the Future which is Friday. Maybe chinook role demo but being honest probably nothing special

They were meant to do so in 2022, but the weather conditions didn't allow it (though the Red Devils did jump earlier in the afternoon in more miserable weather).
