Royal International Air Tattoo 2025 Wishlist:

Post by JMC »

Hey everyone,

Whether it's specific aircraft you'd love to see, unique formations, or any other suggestions, share your ideas during the off season!

Please keep in mind that this thread will be locked in March to ensure mods keep this forum organised and manageable.

I'll only be posting the once of my wishlist as I contributed my fair share to the mess that was the last one.

Here goes mine:

Flying

• B-29 'Doc'/B-24 'Diamond Lil' or Mosquito PZ474 celebrate VE Day. To be involved in a flypast with a P-47, P-38 Lightning, Kittyhawk/Warhawk F-4U Corsair, Bearcat/Wildcat, Spitfire's, Hurricane's, Catalina, Sally-B, BBMF Lancaster, B-25, Blenheim, C-47's & A26 Invader.

• CL-415 water drop demo.

• With the recent trend in the past couple of years of the B-52 and U-2, can next year bring about the return of the B-1B? 🤞

• Swedish Historic Flight; Viggen, Draken & Lansen.

• Nord 2501 Noratlas.

• Display Teams Patrouille De France, Frecce Tricolori & Turkish Stars.

• Helicopters: USMC CH-53 Super Stallion, Hungarian Mi-8, RN Merlin & Return of the AAC Apache.

• Frontline Jets: Couteau Delta, Polish F-16 Tiger Demo, Australian Growler, Bulgarian Su-25, US Navy F-35C, Swiss Hornet, ACC F-22 Demo (I wish for the international ban to be lifted), Finnish Hornet, Malaysian Flanker & French Navy Rafale pair.

Static

• Helicopters: Jordanian Mi-26, Spanish Army Chinook, Heli-Operations Sea Kings.

• Jets: Greek Buckeye, Serbian J-20, Moroccan Mirage F-1, A-10 Thunderbolt's, Colombian Kfir's, Indian Jags, Pakistani Mirage V, F-15C's. (Can I say Xi'an JH-7? Even though Doctor Who is more likely to teleport in my living room)

• Heavies: Chilean E-3D, Latvian An-2, E-2 Hawkeye, C-5 Galaxy, B-2 Spirit, Atlantique 2, Indian A-50 & Japanese C-1.

Not wishing for all, just a handful on any of these would be superb.

All my wishes relate to ex-Soviet hardware. There is so little of it about and I guess the only slightly realistic (fast jet) possibilities would be Indian Sukhois or Polish MiGs (either of which would be incredible) but if i'm really dreaming, Serbian or Bulgarian MiGs, Bulgarian Frogfoots or Algerian Fencers... it is a wishlist after all...

Since these "wish lists" are more quasi-fantasy "it exists so there's a snowball's chance in Hell it might come" rather than "this is what I hope to see based on rational expectations considering real-world factors beyond the mere existence of an airframe"...

I never know where to pitch these wishlists. North Korean MiG-21s and USAF SR-71s seem a bit of a waste. But then all the usuals also feel like a waste because that’s boring.

Hopefully this is reasonably pitched (lol, it isn’t) at what “could” attend. It already takes account of the “usuals” so to speak (Danish F-16, Swedish Gripen etc).

OK here's a little quiz for you all, which could be "realistic" items for a wishlist in 2025.

Of the 58 nationa who have attended the Tattoo from 1971 to 2024, 37 of them have brought a Hercules in one form or another to arrival or show days.

Of the other 21, only four operate Hercules in their military forces, can you name the four who haven't appeared with a Herky bird? Hint, one is a realistic future participant, the other three would be noteworthy.

Indeed, well done both.

An Indian one was very close by during the 2015 show and I'm sure its only a matter of time until a German one adds to the list.

Starting with nations that have attended or at one point been listed to attend any of the last three shows, many things could be mentioned here, but keeping it mildly concise: some thoughts…

Civilian Types – Draken L-159E (Third time lucky?), Kraguj (2nd time lucky), Burkina Faso SF-260 from Lydd, Sri Lankan Nanchang from White Waltham, South Arabian Jet Provost T52 G-PROV from Nottingham, ARES MB339 (based in the south of France, ex-RNZAF), Omega KC-707, Skyline Aviation L-39 & Learjet (Dutch-based agressors). Pre-delivery Airbus/ATR/Leonardo types – plenty of exotically marked types on the continent about to start their service lives.

Austria – A Helicopter.

Bahrain – Bell 212 or AH-1E/F brought over in C-130J (60 Years of AH-1 Cobra).

Belgium – NH90 TTH (30 Years of NH90) & A109

Brazil – P-3

Canada – CP-140

Czech Republic – AH-1Z (25 Years of AH-1Z) & UH-1Y supported by a Let-410 on static display.

Dennmark – A helicopter.

Estonia – L-39

Finland – Learjet 35 & return of the Army NH90 (30 Years of NH90).

France – Taking note of some of the spectacular support from the Germans and Italians in recent years, E-3F & KC-135 from the Air Force, E-2 Hawkeye & Atlantique from the Navy and Army H225M & Puma (60 Years of Puma, 25 Years of H225M).

Germany – EC665 Tiger (in an A400M if they can’t fly over the water), in a return of the Navy: a Do228 & NH90

Greece – Mirage 2000 (with support C-130H on static) – or something other than F-4 or F-16 for variety’s sake.

Hungary – Mi-17 & Mi-24

Italy – Following the vast variety of types from the air force in recent years, an NH-500E this time. Hopefully it won’t be quite such a long wait for the Army and Navy to return again – helicopters from them would be great to see.

Ireland – PC-12 Spectre

Japan – E-767

Jordan – Perhaps the RJF could be ferried by Il-76 for a change?

Kuwait – Super Hornet on a well-timed delivery flight (as with the Hornets in 1993) - they’ve been flying the US again having been in storage (30 Years of Super Hornet).

Lithuania – Let L-410

Morocco – Mirage F-1C/E (+ support C-130H on static too).

NATO – A330

Netherlands – Cougar (Puma family anniversary)

New Zealand – C-130H(NZ) – if there are any still going by then.

Norway – Bell 412

Oman – C-130H & Super Lynx

Poland – MiG-29 & Mi-14

Portugal – C-130H

Qatar – Camo AW139 in a C-17.

Republic of Korea – RC-800 (ISTAR Hawker 800).

Romania – Following the excellent variety of An-30, An-26, C-27J & F-16 for the last three shows, how about an IAR 330 (50 Years of IAR 330, Puma Anniversaries).

Saudi Arabia – They seem to have enjoyed themselves, appearing two years on the bounce, bringing along their culture tent in 2024 – a KE-3A & Tornado this time round, please.

Serbia – Could their new C-295 support a deployment of MiG-29 or J-22 to the UK?

Slovakia – Mi-17 before they’re all replaced by UH-60M.

Slovenia – One last appearance from the Let-410 if it’s still around.

Spain – C-212 Aviocar from the Air Force. Harriers are great, but for a change: SH-60 from the navy.

Sweden – NH90 before they’re gone – these being the different High Cabin Version (HCV) (30 Years of NH90).

Switzerland – F-5F Trainer

Turkey – Just about anything other than F-16 or F-4 for variety’s sake – but especially the C-160, if it’s still flying.

UAE – C-17 with Bell 412 (or a Joint Aviation Command Helicopter) on board.

US – E-6B Mercury, European based UH-72 Lakota & HH-60G

United Kingdom – AAC Dauphin & One of the new H145 for Cyprus/Brunei if there are any in Britain at the time.

Zambia – C-27J

Other countries very much welcome too – a return of Pakistan or India, Algerian jets – or maybe something from Chile or Columbia? (I wrote this before Caper’s excellent post on this topic yesterday viewtopic.php?t=90864) Closer to home: Latvia or Bulgaria? Singapore M-346 are just across the channel in France whilst Egypt would be another interesting new nation having appeared as ongoing in recent years.

A (very) long and eclectic Wishlist, if even a small handful of them were to be on the tarmac at Fairford next July, I'll be very pleased indeed.

Great shout on the Japanese E767.

Has an E767 appeared at any airshow within Europe?

Given that only Japan operate them, and only four exist, I’m not sure they’ve appeared at a show outside of Japan. Perhaps an exercise or deployment, but not much more than that.

I’m sure someone will correct me in due course.

I’m hoping someone with alot of past knowledge will be able to answer this, is it realistic to wish for a country like Romania or Slovakia to set up display teams for their F-16s? As someone who loves f-16 displays Id love to see them as the number of demo teams for the f-16 is decreasing in Europe. With the danish bound to disband next year and the loss of the Belgians, I’d love to see original AM models still displaying. Perhaps to replace the mig 29 display from Slovakia and the mig-21 display from Romania?

OK, on a similar note to Prof M's post and indeed Tommy, not getting into fantasy land and keeping it to countries that have attended before. Realistic or at least deployable to the UK, and not attended a Fairford Tattoo previously

Algeria - Il76, a pair of Su24s would be nice though (if Moroccan F-16s can make it)
Argentina - C-130
Australia - C-17
Austria - PC6
Bahrain - 146
Belgium - Piper Cub
Brazil - P-3
Bulgaria - Su25 or MiG29 would be great, I'd be happier with a two seat Su25
Canada - Twin Otter, Challenger probably more realistic to get here
Chile - E-3 returning would be fun
Colombia - 767 Jupiter - love the scheme and markings
Croatia - sadly the MiGs have gone so I guess it will be a Rafale
Czechia - AH-1Z/UH-1Y combo
Denmark - SH-60
Estonia - Robinson R44 (seriously, its the only type that hasn't been)
Finland - MD500
France - Army NH90, Navy NH90, Air Force E-3 although A400 display is apparently good
Germany - Global Express
Greece - Mirage 2000
Hungary - Mi17
India - EL/W-2090
Ireland - Learjet, soon to go
Israel - don't think they would be allowed to attend at present
Italy - Air Force SF260, Army CH-47, Navy AW101
Japan - US-2
Jordan - Mi26 https://www.airliners.net/photo/Jordan- ... T2/5441607
Kuwait - C-17
Latvia - An2
Lithuania - we've seen it all so have to go back to a Let410
Luxembourg - A400M
Malaysia - A400M (supporting a pair of Su30s)
Malta - King Air
Morocco - Mirage F1s naturally, C-27 support
Netherlands - G650 only option at present
New Zealand - P-8 only realistic option
Norway - P-8 only option
Oman - A320 realistic option, Typhoon or F-16 less likely but staggeringly dull schemes
Pakistan - Il78 (with JF-17s)
Poland - Air Force Fa-50, Navy - SH-2
Portugal - Merlin
Qatar - Rafale
Romania - IAR330
Russia - not happening
Saudi Arabia - RE-3
Serbia - Orao
Slovakia - F-16
Slovenia - Cougar
South Africa - 737 or a TurboDak
South Korea - old school C-130H
Spain - CL-215/415 or T-35 Pilan before they're all gone
Sweden - A109
Switzerland - PC6
Turkey - T-38
Ukraine - Su24 if we get the chance to welcome them back
UAE - Mirage 2000 or F-16
UK - Envoy IV, not sure we'll see a RAF Shadow or Army Dauphin anytime soon
USA - Air Force E-11, Navy E-2 or C-2, Army RO-5/RO-6, Coast Guard HC-27
Venezuela - not sure they are on the list of friendlies at present?

And as a new country a Singapore M-346 would be reasonably realistic.

I'm sure Peter is already on the case!

Out of all the tasty stuff the French have, you hope for NH90’s? 😨

Each to their own! (The gap left by French Mirages and Rafales will be covered by flying Frogfoot’s it seems though so ignore me!)

Ah yes, those famous French Army and Navy Mirages, and the Air Force variants that have never been to Fairford before, can you remind me of those ones?

OK fair enough, what French Navy and Army types have never been to Fairford previously that could come instead? Cap 10s are great, but I've seen them. Tigres can't deploy we are told.
